SEO check: Introduction to individual criteria (incl. checklist)

Technical SEO alone comprises dozens of criteria. Some criteria are important for all websites, others only for certain websites. For example, canonical tags are an SEO measure that is mainly relevant for online stores.

 

Some online stores often have duplicate content under individual URLs, which is due to the fact that the product lists are very similar. To prevent such duplicate content and the threat of being penalized by search engines, a canonical tag to the original page is placed in the header of each subpage with duplicate content. This alerts the search engine crawlers to the duplicate content and avoids a penalty.
